AU PAIR PROGRAM

Hi everybody and welcome back!
Today's post is going to be a bit different. We are not going to talk about the difference between Italy and US but about the AU PAIR program.

The au pair program is an exchange program that gives girls and boys from all over the world the opportunity to live the American dream for a certain period. You start by creating a profile, with photos and personal information, after which the agency that everyone chooses puts you online in a sort of platform where families looking for an au pair can contact you. Only families can contact the girls and not vice versa, but once the family contacts you the decision is up to us (future au pair). We can decide whether to accept and then start chatting and zoom call or say no! There are several aspects to consider before making a match with a family, as unfortunately, you are not always compatible. Fortunately, I found the perfect family for me on the first try. My host family consists of 4 people, parents and two children, Marco, and Anna. Marco was 7 years old and Anna was 9 years old.
I left Italy at the age of 21, with a lot of fear of failure, but a great desire to discover the world, learn a new language and new cultures. Having this experience completely changed me. It changed my mind, my way of life and made me grow on a personal level. During my journey, I met some fantastic people who were doing the same path. People who have helped and supported me in all my choices, like starting college, for example. They are girls with whom I shared my experience at 360 degrees and whom I have to thank. Together with them I laughed, cried, traveled, and ate a lot. It is never easy to go and live on the other side of the world alone and without knowing anyone. It takes courage and a lot of willpower, especially when homesickness begins to make itself felt. But if I went back, I would make the same choices. I created a beautiful relationship with my host family, and they practically became my second family. I shared so many emotions with them. I love my host kids madly and miss them more every day, especially when I browse my cell phone gallery and relive all the moments I spent with them. Being an au pair doesn't just mean being a babysitter, it means being part of the host family, being a babysitter during the day, but also being a big sister to the children. Living with them 24/7 leads you to know them well and in all their facets as if they were really your brothers or sisters.
